The documents assembled here are a journey to seek out the language and secrets of a people living deep in the Himalayas, untouched and unknown by the modern world.

Several years ago years ago an explorer disappeared into the mountains in a remote area of western Nepal, near the border with India and Tibet. He had with him a few pack animals and a crazy idea of finding some ‘lost’ culture. Friends and colleagues of the explorer knew of course that he was on a wild goose chase but he was not the sort of person to take notice of such warnings. They feared that they would not see him again. They were right.

But he was also right. The following year a backpack was found by a group of mountaineers. Among it's contents were a couple of tattered notebooks which appeared to be written by the explorer and which show that he did indeed find a lost culture living in one of the remote valleys of the region.

These journals were badly damaged and much in them has been lost - but thankfully some parts have been recovered. One journal appears to contain general notes on the people who live in the valley. In the other were examples of a strange script that the explorer had found scattered around the valley.

We have restored some of the entries from these documents and we are working on restoring more of them. Because of the state that these journals were in we can't say in what order these fragments were written - they are just listed them in the order they were recovered.

Using these documents it may be possible to decipher this language and reconstruct the sounds of it's words. Maybe this will shed light on where these people come from and how they have remained out of sight of the rest of the world.

This task we leave in your hands.
